Custer State Park
Recently a family member asked me to go with them to Custer State Park. Reluctant at first I found later that I would enjoy the trip very much. The drive was long, but in the end so worth it. We had about a 12 hour drive with stops. On the way there we happen to see some longhorns grazing in a pasture, and even a prairie dog. We took about an hour drive through the badlands and walked through some of it as well. I think that you don’t realize how high the peaks are and how low the values are until you step outside of it and see how large it is from afar. We don’t see any snakes but we saw different animals like coats, bunnies, and horses. I honestly one recommends going to the badlands for more than a hour war driving through to get somewhere else. It’s interesting to see one time, I really enjoyed the yellow mounds. What I enjoyed even more was the hiking that we did while we were there. I started off by walking around Sylvan lake which is inside of Custer park. I then decided to take the trail up to devil’s tower. The hike really wasn’t that hard to get to the base of devil’s tower. Once you actually get up to the point that you’re ready to move up devil’s tower you are literally rock climbing on a 45° angle. There is a little bit of maneuvering that has to be done with loose rock and some steep and slim paths. Unfortunately it was foggy outs when we got to the top so you can’t really see anything, but at one points I did get a break in the clouds for about 5 minutes and from that we got some very amazing pictures of the terrain. I then made my way down back to the main hiking trail which met up with the trail that goes to the cathedral Spires. They’re very interesting to look at, I hear that you can actually see them from driving the main road. We met some pretty crazy people along the way there. I was slightly disappointed I didn’t see a bear. However we did see some deer at the end of our hike. It was raining out which made the trail in little bit miserable. All of the good sites were being blocked by a hard fog. So it felt like you were hiking but without the benefit of the views. We also made a trip pass mount Rushmore which I took some pictures from the road but did not see fit to go inside. I hope you enjoyed these pictures. With I used a voice to text for this plug so I’m sure there are a lot of misspelled and odd words but by unfortunately have been rushed because I’m too busy shooting lately…
