A Hike to Remember – Exploring Munra Point

A Hike to Remember

What a hike to remember!  The Munra Point Hike was one of the most amazing hikes I have done to date!  I had some clients that I am now able to call friends meet me out in Portland, OR to go for one epic hike!  There is nothing about this hike that was easy, and even worse I twisted my ankle just before the hike started.  You can start the hike closer than we did, but you will miss a waterfall or two that is well worth the walk.  The trail doesn’t start getting tough until you get closer to the base.  I will say though that you might want to consider starting closer to the base of the trail due to exhaustion at the end of the hike.  We started from the John B Yeon Trailhead.  Passing Elowah Falls and Elowah Falls.  Which were beautiful beginner hikes or as I like to call it… a warm up.  Munra Point is more of a scramble than a hike.  When you get to the bottom of the hill you will experience a lot of switchbacks.  The scramble literally seems uphill sometimes.  I wouldn’t recommend cutting through as this damages the trials and causes further issues for future hikers.  When you get about 2/3 up the trail you will hit some even steeper hills with a scramble up rocks.  It is not rock climbing but it pretty much is.  Its harder coming down this part than it is going up.  You literally come down walking backwards because it is so steep.  Of what I understood there was a rope to hang on to while climbing up and down, but when we went in April of 2015 there was no rope and it was a little tricky…however that didn’t stop dogs getting up and down the trail so if the pups can…so can you.  It is exhausting going up…but well worth the trip!
