A Capitol wedding in Madison with a bride and groom.

Ashley & Rich’s Classic Wedding at the Madison Capitol and Holiday Inn American Center

Ashley and Rich’s wedding day in Madison, Wisconsin was filled with timeless moments, heartfelt details, and a balance of elegance and warmth that made it truly personal. From handwritten notes and string quartets to cherry blossoms and Capitol portraits, the entire day was a celebration of love, family, and meaningful tradition.

As a Madison wedding photographer, capturing weddings like this — rooted in connection and elevated by iconic settings — is always an honor.

Getting Ready at the Holiday Inn Madison American Center

Ashley began her morning surrounded by her bridesmaids in a suite at the Holiday Inn Madison at the American Center. Matching floral robes, glasses in hand, and a mimosa-fueled sense of joy set the tone. A little girl — the daughter of a bridesmaid — danced through the room, keeping everyone smiling as final hair and makeup touches came together.

Ashley received a bouquet of red roses from Rich, along with a note that read simply: “I can’t wait to marry you. Love, Rich.” It was a quiet moment that captured the sentiment of the day.

With help from her mother, Ashley stepped into a strapless gown adorned with lace overlay and a crystal-encrusted bodice. Before heading to the ceremony, she shared a private first look with her father — a quiet, emotional pause before the day truly began.

Ceremony at Messiah Lutheran Church

Rich waited at the altar of Messiah Lutheran Church in Madison, escorted by his parents and surrounded by family. A string quartet played as guests took their seats and the ceremony began.

Ashley walked down the aisle with grace, and the ceremony that followed was filled with connection and reverence. After lighting a unity candle and signing their marriage license, the couple exchanged hugs with their wedding party — a touching display of closeness and community.

Capitol Wedding Portraits in Downtown Madison

After the ceremony, the couple and their wedding party boarded a party bus and headed downtown for portraits. First stop: a local park for a few quiet moments surrounded by spring blooms. Then, on to the iconic Wisconsin State Capitol.

It was a busy day at the Capitol — multiple weddings, prom groups, and tourists filled the steps — but we carved out space for Ashley and Rich to share quiet portraits among the columns and grand marble staircases. Despite the activity around them, they moved with a calm joy, completely in sync.
