Sometimes love is about waiting for the storm to pass—and sometimes, it’s about dancing in the rain while you wait.
On May 20th, Kaitlyn and Lucas were married at the beautiful Norskedalen Nature and Heritage Center. Their day was filled with the kind of meaningful moments that only happen when you embrace imperfection—and trust that, together, you can weather anything.
Rain, Resilience, and Real Connection
I started the day with Kaitlyn as she was getting ready in a small cabin tucked into the woods. As rain fell steadily outside, the ceremony was delayed by nearly an hour. But instead of stress or frustration, there was joy.
The bridesmaids’ room was full of laughter, encouragement, and warmth. Their smiles—and Kaitlyn’s unwavering positivity—were a reminder that sometimes, the real beauty of a wedding isn’t in the details. It’s in the way people lift each other up when plans go sideways.
Waiting for the skies to clear gave everyone space to be present, to laugh through the uncertainty, and to savor the company of the people they love most.
A Ceremony Rooted in Symbolism
Determined to marry outside, Kaitlyn made the decision to wait for a break in the clouds. Her patience paid off. Beneath a misty, softened sky, Kaitlyn and Lucas exchanged vows—and included a tree watering ceremony, symbolizing their commitment to growth, nurturing, and weathering life’s seasons together.
The lace of Kaitlyn’s gown gathered a little mud along the way. But her smile never dulled. If anything, it shone brighter—like a beacon through the soft gray light.
In counseling and therapy traditions, storms are often used as metaphors for life’s challenges—reminders that relationships are about standing together through hardship, not just celebrating under sunny skies. Kaitlyn and Lucas’s wedding embodied that spirit beautifully.
Crafting a Beautiful, Personalized Day
Inside the reception space, the couple’s creativity and attention to detail were on full display. They handmade many of the decorations themselves—arranging mirrors, vintage frames, photos, and meaningful touches throughout the Heritage Center.
It didn’t matter that the timeline shifted. It didn’t matter that their dress hems gathered rainwater.
What mattered was what always matters: love, resilience, and the beauty of persistence.
Even though the ceremony started late, we made up the time in the evening, sneaking away for portraits that captured the easy, laid-back nature of their connection.
Thank You, Kaitlyn & Lucas
Kaitlyn and Lucas, thank you so much for trusting me to document your day. Your patience, creativity, and joy made it a privilege to be part of your story.
I know that rain on your wedding day is said to bring good luck—and based on the way you embraced every unexpected moment together, I have no doubt that your marriage will be full of grace, laughter, and the strength to weather any storm.
