Kara and Dylan’s Best Day

Kara and Dylan are the kind of people who love to have a good time and wholeheartedly embrace every moment life offers them. This was abundantly clear right from our first meeting at their engagement photo session. They were completely on board with the idea of an early morning shoot, enthusiastically agreeing to wake up at the crack of dawn to catch the sunrise in LaCrosse. Their adventurous spirit and willingness to seize such an opportunity made the session not just fun but truly memorable.

As the first light of dawn broke over LaCrosse, it illuminated a scene of pure magic. Amid the serene beauty of the early morning, Kara and Dylan were a picture of joy and love. The way they laughed and interacted with each other, completely at ease and in the moment, made for some genuinely stunning images. The soft morning light created a perfect, dreamy backdrop, highlighting their connection and their sheer joy in each other’s company. It was clear from these moments that their wedding day would be just as full of life, love, and beautiful spontaneity.

When their wedding day arrived, it became evident that we were in for a classic Wisconsin rain-out at their venue, Trappers Turn Golf Course. However, true to their nature, Kara and Dylan didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits. Instead, they embraced the day with all its unpredictability and centered their celebration on one key element: FUN.

Their ability to adapt and find joy in the unexpected turned what could have been a setback into a unique and memorable experience. They laughed off the rain, armed themselves with umbrellas, and entered the day with adventure and excitement. The rain, far from being a hindrance, added a cozy and romantic feel to the event, making it even more special.

It’s a delightful quirk of my photography collections that they often feature a fair number of dog photos. This is simply because many of my clients, much like Kara and Dylan (and me!), are passionate dog lovers. It’s become quite a common and heartwarming trend for couples to include their furry companions in their wedding celebrations, adding a personal and joyful touch to their special day.

Kara, a devoted dog parent, began her wedding day in the most charming way possible – with their adorable, cuddly dachshund playing a part in her getting ready process. The little dachshund wasn’t just a pet; he was a beloved family member, sharing in the joy and excitement of the day.

The absence of Kara’s mother on her wedding day was deeply felt, yet her presence was lovingly woven throughout the celebration in numerous heartfelt ways. One of the most poignant moments was the first look with her father. This emotional encounter was not just about the traditional reveal of the bride but also served as a tender homage to her mother. Kara and her father’s connection during this moment was incredibly moving, a silent recognition of the love and memory they both held for her mother.

At the reception, Kara ensured her mother’s memory was honored and felt by all. Photographs of her were thoughtfully placed, serving as a visual reminder of her enduring presence in their lives. These images were more than just pictures; they were windows into cherished memories, inviting guests to share in the celebration of her life and the impact she had on those she loved.

The toasts were another beautiful tribute, with heartfelt remembrances that brought both tears and smiles. Speakers shared stories and anecdotes that reflected her spirit, allowing guests to feel connected to her. It was clear through these moments that Kara’s mother, though physically absent, was an integral part of the day, her spirit interwoven with each loving gesture, photograph, and spoken word, continuing to be a guiding and cherished presence in their lives.

Reflecting on Kara and Dylan’s wedding day and so many others I’ve had the honor to photograph, I am continually inspired by couples who make their wedding day uniquely their own. It’s a beautiful testament to love and partnership when a couple embraces their day wholeheartedly, regardless of the circumstances.

Kara and Dylan, like many of my clients, have shown that what truly makes a wedding day special is not the perfect weather or the flawless execution of details but the love, fun, and authenticity they infuse into every moment. Their ability to focus on what truly matters – their commitment to each other, the joy of joining their lives together, and the celebration with those they hold dear – is what sets their day apart.

So here’s to all the couples like Kara and Dylan, who remind us that the heart of a wedding isn’t in the grand gestures or the perfect setting but in the love shared, the memories honored, and the fun embraced. These are the days that stand out, the ones that are remembered and cherished, not just for the beautiful photos but for the wonderful stories they tell.
