There’s something about Denver. Maybe it’s the sharp blue skies or the golden-hour light that settles perfectly on the Rockies. Maybe it’s the mix of gritty city textures and wild, open landscapes. Or maybe it’s the people—grounded, adventurous, and deeply present. Whatever it is, this city has a rhythm that speaks to me.
I’m Ben, the photographer behind Boxcar Photography. I live in Sloan’s Lake, and I’ve been photographing weddings across Colorado for over a decade. If you’re searching for a Denver wedding photographer who will document your love with honesty, care, and artistry—you’re in the right place.
This guide will walk you through what it’s like to work with me, how I approach photographing Denver weddings, some planning insights, and why this place is such an incredible canvas for your love story.
What Makes My Work Different: Emotion Over Aesthetics (But Still Beautiful as Hell)
My style is rooted in documentary storytelling. That means I’m less concerned about creating a picture-perfect tableau and more focused on capturing what’s actually happening—your partner’s teary-eyed grin, your mom’s hand on your shoulder, the way you reach for each other without thinking.
Don’t worry: you’ll still get the dreamy portraits, the artistic ring shot, and those frame-worthy images of your venue glowing in the evening light. But you’ll also get the moments between the moments. I want your photos to feel like you—not a version of you performing for Instagram.
That blend of natural light, minimal posing, and intuitive composition has become my signature. And I’ve found that couples who value authentic connection, being present, and a touch of creative depth tend to feel most at home with my work.
Why Denver Is the Perfect Place to Say “I Do”
Being a wedding photographer in Denver is like being a painter with the best set of brushes and an ever-changing sky. The variety here is unreal.
You can get married at:
A downtown Denver rooftop with skyline views
A historic mansion in Littleton
A Red Rocks-adjacent outdoor ceremony
A modern industrial venue in RiNo
Or a trail-accessible mountain overlook, just 30 minutes outside the city
That range means I’ve shot weddings in everything from black-tie ballrooms to barefoot ceremonies in wildflower meadows. And that versatility shows up in how I work—I’m prepared for shifting light, fast-moving timelines, and whatever Colorado weather throws our way.
Why Add Videography to Your Wedding Package?
Photographs freeze time, but video brings it back to life. You’ll hear your vows again, feel the energy of the dance floor, and catch the little moments you didn’t even see on the day. Together, photo and video tell a fuller story — one you’ll treasure for years to come.

Denver Wedding Photography That’s Built Around You
Every wedding is different. That’s why I approach each one with fresh eyes and a curious heart.
My Process
1. Connection First: We’ll start with a call or in-person chat to get to know each other. Your values, your story, your vision—all of that informs how I photograph your day.
2. Planning Support: I help you build a timeline that honors your priorities (and your light). I’ll offer venue-specific tips, portrait location ideas, and flexibility for anything spontaneous.
3. Wedding Day Presence: I arrive early. I move quietly. I photograph what’s true. Whether I’m adjusting a boutonniere, calming pre-ceremony nerves, or celebrating on the dance floor, I show up as someone who’s all in—with camera and heart.
4. Clean, Classic Editing: After your wedding, I hand-edit each image to reflect true-to-life colors, timeless tones, and a natural feel. No gimmicks, no trendy filters—just storytelling that lasts.
Venues I Love in and Around Denver
Some of my favorite venues to photograph near Denver include:
- The Manor House (Littleton) — Historic charm meets mountain views
- Moss Denver — Industrial elegance in the heart of the city
- Piney River Ranch — A visual feast near Vail (still driveable from Denver)
- The St. Vrain — Mid-century modern meets clean design
- Bonnie Blues Event Venue — A blend of rustic and refined
Each space brings out different tones in my work—some moody and intimate, others airy and bright. You can explore more venue options in our Colorado Wedding Venue Guide.
Planning Tips for Denver Weddings
Denver is a gem, but it comes with quirks. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Altitude Is Real
Hydrate, rest, and plan breathing room into your timeline—especially if you’re traveling from sea level.
2. Weather Is Unpredictable
Even in July, I’ve seen rainstorms roll in mid-ceremony. Have a backup plan, even if you don’t end up needing it.
3. Golden Hour Is Magic
Depending on your venue’s location, I’ll help you time portraits to catch the best evening light. Sometimes the light downtown reflects off glass and steel in wild ways. Sometimes it glows behind pines on a mountainside.
4. Popular Dates Book Fast
Fall weekends and Saturdays fill up quickly in Colorado. Reach out early to lock in your date (especially if you’re thinking September or October).

FAQ: Denver Wedding Photography & Videography
Ideally, you should book as soon as you have your date and venue – often 12 to 18 months in advance for popular dates. Fall Saturdays in Colorado book up fastest, so if you’re planning a September or October wedding, reach out early. That said, if your wedding is sooner, don’t panic! I occasionally have openings or weekday availability, so it’s always worth inquiring. The sooner we connect, the better we can ensure I’m available and start planning your perfect photo/video coverage.
Our combined photography and videography packages are designed to cover your full wedding day seamlessly. Every package includes an experienced lead photographer (hi, that’s me!) and a dedicated videographer (or second shooter who handles video), so both mediums are captured simultaneously. You’ll receive a full gallery of edited high-resolution photos (with printing rights) and a beautifully edited highlight film that tells the story of your day (typically 5–10 minutes in length). We also provide the full ceremony video and main reception events (like toasts and dances) in real-time edits, so you can re-watch those moments from start to finish. On top of that, all our packages include pre-wedding planning consultations, timeline assistance, and optional add-ons like engagement sessions, extra hours, or album design. We’ll customize everything to fit your needs – you’ll know exactly what you’re getting, with no surprises.
Great question! For weddings in the immediate Denver metro and surrounding areas (including Boulder and many mountain venues within about a 2-hour drive of Denver), travel is typically included in our pricing. I’m used to zipping around the Front Range and high country. If your venue is a bit further – say, a destination in the Colorado Rockies that requires overnight stay, or anywhere outside Colorado – there may be a reasonable travel or lodging fee. Transparency is super important to me, so we’ll discuss any potential travel costs upfront in the booking process. Rest assured, I love traveling for love stories, and I keep any fees fair and straightforward. My home base is Denver, but I’ll follow you to the mountaintops, deserts, or wherever your celebration takes you!

For me, it’s not just about the visuals — it’s about getting to know you, understanding what makes your connection unique, and turning that into something meaningful you can relive for years to come.
I’m inspired by love, the outdoors, and the raw, real moments that unfold on a wedding day. Whether it’s a sweeping mountain view or a quiet exchange of vows, I aim to create wedding films and photos that feel true to who you are and the journey you’re on together.
Hidden talent: I can figure out the chord progression of almost any song on the spot — music runs deep in my world too.
