There’s something quietly stunning about Silverthorne — the way the Blue River winds through town, the way the mountains press in close, the way light hits the Pavilion at golden hour. It’s a mountain town with heart, and it’s quickly becoming one of Colorado’s most loved wedding destinations.
As a Silverthorne wedding photographer, I’m here to help you see the beauty — not just in the setting, but in the way the day unfolds around you. Whether you’re saying vows inside the Pavilion or sneaking off for riverside portraits, Silverthorne has a way of slowing everything down just enough for it to matter.
Why Get Married in Silverthorne?
Silverthorne sits right off I-70, nestled between Dillon and Frisco, and just over an hour from Denver. It offers:
- Mountain views without mountain traffic
- Flexible, budget-friendly venues
- Access to lakes, forests, rivers, and ridgelines
- A more relaxed vibe than bigger ski towns
For couples who want mountain beauty without mountain chaos, Silverthorne is that sweet spot — photogenic, personal, and down-to-earth.
My Approach as Your Silverthorne Photographer
I’m Ben — the photographer behind Boxcar. I’ve been documenting weddings in Colorado for over 15 years, and Silverthorne is one of my favorite places to slow down and really see a couple.
My style is rooted in story — documentary at heart, with gentle direction when needed. I’ll be there when you need a breath, when you need someone to zip a dress, and when you forget I’m there at all.
Here’s what you get:
- Thoughtful planning for light, timing, and movement
- A calm, present energy throughout your day
- Candid storytelling with honest editing
- Someone who knows how to photograph Colorado’s ever-changing light — from snow to golden hour to candlelight

A Real Silverthorne Wedding Story
One of my favorite weddings at the Pavilion took place in early October. The aspens were still turning. The couple walked across the bridge for their first look, just as the sun hit the water.
Later, during the reception, a brief snowfall started — out of nowhere — and everyone stepped outside in cocktail attire to dance in it for five minutes. They came back in with wet hair, red cheeks, and the kind of joy you can’t plan.
That’s what I chase with a camera.
Best Time of Year to Get Married in Silverthorne
- Summer (June–August): Great weather, easy mountain access, long days
- Fall (September–early October): Stunning color, crisp light, fewer tourists
- Winter (Nov–March): Cozy vibes, snowy portraits, string lights indoors
- Spring (April–May): Quieter season — good for elopements and moody portraits
Each season has its charm. I’ll help you build a photo plan that works with the light and the mood you’re after.
Planning Tips for Your Silverthorne Wedding
- Book the Pavilion early: It’s one of the most affordable and beloved venues in the state — it fills fast.
- Check elevation: Silverthorne sits at ~8,700 feet. Hydrate and give yourself time to adjust.
- Weather moves quickly: Have a backup plan for portraits and ceremonies — just in case.
- Shuttle your guests: Parking is limited in town. Shuttles = less stress, more fun.

Why you should hike a 14er for engagement photos

The Pavilion is a favorite — affordable, flexible, and beautiful. The Raven Golf Club and nearby Lake Dillon also make great wedding and portrait locations.
It’s about 1.5 hours from Denver, right off I-70. It’s one of the more accessible mountain towns, especially for guests flying into DIA.
No permit is needed for standard portraits along public paths. But if you’re planning a ceremony in a public park, we’ll check with the city.
Absolutely. The Pavilion is beautiful year-round, and there are tons of options for snowy portraits nearby.
Around 8,700 feet. Plan for hydration, extra time, and plenty of breaks — especially if you’re coming from lower elevation.
